[12 Days of Christmas] #1: Angels We Have Heard Being Happy on High

And so we have reached number 1 on the 12 days of Christmas series! (Also, I’m sorry if ever the same post appears more than once in your reader. I think there’s some kind of glitch going on with my posts…)

On the 1st day before Christmas Day, Hazy (and Weatherly) recommend:

BOOK – Being Happy! by Andrew Matthews

Being_Happy_coverThis is a wonderful book. It’s simple, funny, uplifting, engaging, and inspiring. It offers wonderful advice on how to live a happier life and encourages us to keep a positive outlook in life. And it has illustrations done by the author himself. It’s a very enjoyable and helpful read.

Quick Quotes

  • When we see the news stories which portray the plight of starving around the globe, we all ache inside for them. Each of us may have a different view as to how they can be helped, but we all care.
  • The happiest people don’t worry too much about whether life is fair or not, they just get on with it.
  • You deserve love and respect just because you are you.

SONG – “Angels We Have Heard on High” by Pentatonix

Glooooooooooooooooria in excelsis Deo!

Merry Christmas, everyone! 🙂

[12 Days of Christmas] #2: Mary, Did You Know Morrie?

On the 2nd day before Christmas, Hazy (and Weatherly) recommend:

BOOKTuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom

Tuesdays_with_morrie_coverI love this book. It’s definitely one of my favorites. It’s a wonderful and touching story that makes us re-evaluate your priorities in life. It reminds us how precious and short life is, and how we shouldn’t take things & people we love for granted. We should learn how to slow down in our busy lives and take the time to appreciate how lucky we are to be alive and be surrounded by people who care about us. We should always try to love one another and make a positive difference in each other’s lives.

Quick Quotes

  • “So many people walk around with a meaningless life. They seem half-asleep, even when they’re busy doing things they think are important. This is because they’re chasing the wrong things. The way you get meaning into your life is to devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to your community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning.” – Morrie
  • “This is part of what a family is about, not just love. It’s knowing that your family will be there watching out for you. Nothing else will give you that. Not money. Not fame. Not work.”
  • “The most important thing in life is to learn how to give out love, and to let it come in.”
  • “Dying is only one thing to be sad over. Living unhappily is something else.”

SONG – “Mary, Did You Know?” by Pentatonix

Amazing. Just. Wow. The first time I listened to their version, it gave me goosebumps because of how beautifully they sung the lyrics.

Go on, please take a listen. 🙂

[12 Days of Christmas] #3: A Silent Night with a King

Being the often forgetful person that I am, I forgot to schedule the last three posts to publish automatically. Oh, well. Here we go!

On the 3rd day before Christmas, Hazy (and Weatherly) recommend:

BOOKThe Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien

return_of_the_king_coverMy favorite book in the trilogy. Mostly because Eowyn was awesome. And of course, good prevailed over evil.

Quick Quotes

  • “What do you fear, lady?” Aragorn asked.
“A cage,” Éowyn said. “To stay behind bars, until use and old age accept them, and all chance of doing great deeds is gone beyond recall or desire.”
  • “I wished to be loved by another,” Éowyn answered. “But I desire no man’s pity.”
  • “Do not throw your life away rashly or in bitterness.” – Gandalf [to Faramir]

SONG – “Silent Night” by Pentatonix

Beautiful arrangement. Seriously. My favorite part starts around the 1:57 mark. 🙂

Enjoy~! 🙂

[12 Days of Christmas] #4: A Sleigh Ride with the Boy Who Lived

On the 4th day before Christmas, Hazy (and Weatherly) recommend:

BOOK – “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” by J.K. Rowling

When I first read this book back in 2000, I got sucked into its world. It wasn’t a difficult read, and it was interesting. I thought the characters were fun and relatable (even though I’m a muggle). And so, every time Ms. Rowling released a Harry Potter book, I eagerly read it and usually finished it in a day because I found it very hard to put it down!

SONG – “Sleigh Ride” by Pentatonix

I’ve never ridden a sleigh. Have you? Looks like fun.

[12 Days of Christmas] #5: A Speckled Band is Coming to Town

On the 5th day before Christmas, Hazy (and Weatherly) recommend:

BOOK STORY– “The Adventure of the Speckled Band” by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Because of the animal element, the story reminded me a bit of Dupin and the orangutan situation in “The Murders in the Rue Morgue” by Edgar Allan Poe (I read that story first before this one). Though I think I liked this one better than Poe’s.

Quite an interesting case; a locked room kind of case. I wish I were as excellent at deductions as Mr. Holmes. He’s amazing, isn’t he?

SONG – “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” by Pentatonix

Like Santa, I like giving away presents on Christmas day (but I’m a bit more thrifty than Santa, I think. Budgetary restrictions 😀 )

Are you all done with your holiday shopping?

[12 Days of Christmas] #6: Love and A Winter Hymnal

I forgot to set the draft as a scheduled post yesterday, so here it is. We’re going two for two today. 😀

On the 6th day before Christmas, Hazy (and Weatherly) recommend:

PS_I_Love_You_coverBOOK –
P.S. I Love You by Cecelia Ahern

It’s a chicklit. A sweet/bittersweet story of two people who found love and lost the one they loved. Will you hold on? Learn how to let go? Will you learn to love again? I liked the letters that the guy left for the girl and the idea of him helping the one he loves the most to move on.

Quick Quotes

“Finding someone you love and who loves you back is a wonderful, wonderful feeling. But finding a true soul mate is an even better feeling. A soul mate is someone who understands you like no other, loves you like no other, will be there for you forever, no matter what. They say that nothing lasts forever, but I am a firm believer in the fact that for some, love lives on even after we’re gone.”

“She had been given a wonderful gift: life. Sometimes it was cruelly taken away too soon, but it’s what you did with it that counted, not how long it lasted.”

SONG – “White Winter Hymnal” by Pentatonix (Fleet Foxes cover)

Technically, I don’t think this is a Christmas song. But it has winter in it.

I enjoyed the melody and choreography. There’s even a “clapping” tutorial link around the end part of the video. Go on, have a go at it! 😉
